As an intern in the Guidance Navigation and Control Department, I was thrown into the thick of things and given meaningful work right from the start. My work included determining hardware placement on a spacecraft and designing hardware test equipment.  I felt like an actual engineer and not just a student.  It was a great experience!

I love the friendly environment at Orbital and the feeling of cooperation.  Everyone I met was willing to take time out to answer my questions or provide suggestions. People enjoy the work they do here and it shows. Orbital is a great company to intern for, and definitely a company I’d consider working for after graduation.

I just finished a fulfilling summer internship with Orbital - my second with the company. Orbital strives to make its internship program as useful and beneficial to the interns as possible, and it shows. I was exposed to a full-speed design environment, where I learned the skills that simply cannot be taught in the classroom. Constant collaboration with other engineers; exposure to new, advanced, real-world problems; practice with advanced engineering tools - all these things helped me to grow as an engineer. I spent a lot of this past summer learning and applying the principles of rocket plume impingement analyses. This was a very important problem (it can easily make or break a spacecraft) that I hadn't ever seen in my aerospace classes at school.

Just being in the environment of Orbital is nourishing. There are so many intelligent people to learn from or just chew the fat with. I worked just a few offices down from a former astronaut! I had countless questions for him, yet he answered them all with cheer.  Whether my next move after I graduate is a job or graduate school, I will be all the more prepared because of my internship at Orbital.

I really enjoyed my internship and will definitely recommend Orbital to other students. Whether it was engaging in a technical discussion or just going to lunch with my co-workers, I learned a lot from senior engineers around me- they are really humble and extremely smart. I also appreciate the way interns are very well treated. As a female engineer, I felt it was a very safe and professional environment, and the fact that I met women in leadership positions meant a lot to me.

My expectations coming to Orbital this summer were met and were exceeded by the people I encountered and the tasks I was assigned. I enjoyed my summer internship and would consider this company when I graduate.  I also would definitely recommend Orbital to other qualified students.

My summer internship at Orbital is something I will never forget. Having the opportunity to work on two different programs was a very challenging and enjoyable experience. I had close interactions with my managers and everyone I came in contact with was willing to offer advice. They made me feel welcome and I truly felt like part of the team. Although the job responsibilities were complex and challenging, I felt very comfortable in the work environment here.

While at Orbital, I wrote a procedure to capture the infrastructure of running compatibility tests between the Mission Control Center and spacecraft undergoing testing. The procedure I wrote was actually used to successfully test a spacecraft! Having the opportunity to offer engineering input and to analyze safety requirements for the NASA COTS program was utterly amazing since this is a program that I am extremely interested in. Being able to apply engineering concepts I have learned in the classroom into an actual work setting was very fulfilling. The greatest part of being an intern at Orbital is that I had a chance to work on real world projects and actually see my work make a positive impact.

Throughout my internship I had to opportunity to work on a variety of tasks in several disciplines. This was valuable because it provided me a chance to find those tasks in which I naturally excel and those in which I can strive for improvement. The hands-on experience I was given provided several opportunities to see and touch many of the components and systems that I worked.

The environment at Orbital was one in which I was completely comfortable seeking help, whether technical or procedural, from any individual in my department. Many internships (including those of several of my friends at other companies) include menial tasks with little real engineering. I felt I was really given the opportunity to apply many of the skills and concepts I've learned in my education and given further opportunity to increase my technical skills. In my experience here at Orbital I was definitely given the opportunity to excel technically.

I really felt as though I was trusted to accomplish the tasks that I was given without hand holding. I was introduced to a task, given a completion date, and treated as any other employee would be treated. While interns inherently require slightly more oversight than seasoned employees, I was able to accomplish tasks on my own which provided me with a great sense of pride in my work.
