Mr. Pierce joined Orbital in August 2000 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In August 2002, his position was elevated to Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer. In this role, Mr. Pierce is responsible for the company's corporate financial planning and control, accounting and audit functions, equity and debt capital market activities, investor and bank relations and all related areas.

Prior to joining Orbital, Mr. Pierce served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer/Chief Administrative Officer for Sensormatic Electronics Corporation, a $1 billion global technology company headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida. He worked to refinance the company's debt securities, raised equity, significantly improved the company's bottom line and restructured its financial reporting system. Beyond managing the company's finances, Mr. Pierce oversaw Sensormatic's corporate communications, human resources, information technology and legal departments.

Earlier, Mr. Pierce held executive-level positions at California Microwave, Inc., a $500 million leading supplier of microwave and satellite systems for communications and wireless networks, and Materials Research Corporation, a provider of thin film technology equipment and high purity materials to the semiconductor industry. Sony Corporation acquired Materials Research Corporation as a wholly owned subsidiary in 1989. Mr. Pierce has also worked for Allied Signal, Touche Ross (now known as Deloitte & Touche) and Time Warner.

Mr. Pierce holds bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from Southern Illinois University and attended Stanford University's Executive Financial Management Program. He is a certified public accountant.
