Horizons-2

Orbital built the Horizons-2 satellite for Horizons Satellite Holdings, LLC, a joint venture between Intelsat and JSAT Corporation of Japan. The spacecraft was launched into an orbital slot at 74 degrees West Longitude to help meet the growing demand for Ku-band satellite communications services in North America. Horizons-2 features both a continental US (CONUS) beam and an East Coast beam extending the spacecraft’s coverage to include the Caribbean and parts of Canada.

Performance:
Repeater: 22-for-16 traveling wave tube assemblies (TWTAs), 6-for-4 TWTAs
Antennas: Two 2.3m dual gridded shaped reflector antennas
Stabilization: 3-axis stabilized; zero momentum system
Launch Mass: 2,350 kg (5,181 lbs)
Mission Life: 15-years (fueled for over 16 years)
