THOR 5

The Thor 5 Satellite was developed for Telenor Satellite Broadcasting, part of Telenor Broadcast, one of the three core businesses of Norway's leading communications operator, Telenor ASA. Telenor Satellite Broadcasting provides extensive television broadcasting services for distribution, contribution and occasional applications to the Nordic region and throughout Europe. THOR 5 will replace the THOR II satellite at the 0.8° W Longitude orbital position and will provide regional Ku-band coverage for Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) and Broadcast Satellite Service (BSS). The spacecraft features 15 active FSS transponders and nine active BSS transponders for fixed coverage regions. In addition, five more active transponders are routed through a steerable antenna that can be pointed toward any other region on Earth visible from 0.8° W Longitude.

Performance:
Repeater: 32-for-24 (12/15 FSS, 12/9 BSS) linearized traveling wave tube assemblies
Transponder Power: 55 W RF (FSS) 150 W RF (BSS)
Antennas: Two 2.3m dual gridded shaped deployable reflectors, one .75m steerable antenna
Stabilization: 3-axis stabilized; monopropellant (hydrazine) on orbit
Launch Mass: 2,012 kg (4,434 lbs.)
Mission Life: 15-years (fueled for >18 years)

Status:
Launched February 11, 2008.

Coverage:
Scandinavia, Europe, and the Middle East.

Customer:
Telenor Satellite Broadcasting - Oslo, Norway

Mission:
Ku-band Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) and Broadcast Satellite Service (BSS) for Scandinavia, Europe, and Middle East.
