Overview
Orbital is one of the world's leading providers of small- to medium-class satellites. Since the company's founding in 1982, Orbital has delivered over 110 spacecraft to commercial, military and civil customers worldwide. To date, these spacecraft have amassed in nearly 630 years of on-orbit operations.
Communications Satellites
Our smaller, more affordable STAR™ geosynchronous Earth orbit (GEO) communications satellites are the right-sized answer for the delivery of commercial satellite services such as direct-to-home digital television, business data transmission, cable program distribution and wireless communications. In addition, we are a pioneer in networks of small low-Earth orbit communications satellites having designed and built the 35-satellite ORBCOMM data communications network. Video
Science & Technology Satellites
Orbital is also a recognized leader in small- and medium-class science and technology satellites that generally perform their missions in low-Earth orbit (LEO), and perform communications, remote sensing, space science and technology demonstration missions for commercial, civil, military and international customers. Planetary Spacecraft
Orbital entered the market for interplanetary scientific missions with our selection by JPL to supply the spacecraft for the Dawn asteroid rendezvous mission. Combining elements of our flight-proven LEO satellite systems and our state-of-the-art GEO bus designs, the Dawn spacecraft represents many "firsts" in spaceflight.
Ground Systems and Total Support
In addition to spacecraft design and manufacturing, Orbital provides our customers with total space systems support. We have designed and integrated ground systems for the command and control of in-orbit spacecraft, together with data management and distribution systems for many of our key satellite customers. Services also include procurement of launch services, customer support and technical training.
