Science, Engineering, and Technical Services (SETS)
for NASA/Ames Research Center
Orbital is the prime contractor on this task order contract and principally supports the NASA/Ames Research Center's Earth Science, Space Science, and Space Projects Divisions (including the SOFIA Project Office) within the Astrobiology and Space Research Directorate. Support is also provided to other organizational elements of NASA/ARC. Typical support provided by Orbital and its subcontractors includes: 1) atmospheric and ecosystem science research; 2) planning, design, development, and operation of space and airborne systems and missions; 3) basic and applied research in astrophysics, planetary systems, exobiology, and astrobiology; 4) infrared and cryogenic development; 5) project management and administration with emphasis in this support area for the SOFIA Project Office, and 6) website development and maintenance. Currently, there are 59 separate active tasks requiring approximately 75 Full Time Equivalents.
Prior and current projects supported include the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA), Pioneer 10, Lunar Prospector, X-34, DS-2, CHAART, USGS, Meteorological Measurement System, ESIP, Vintage, SHARP-B2, SHARP-L1, Vulcan, AIRES, Gravity Probe-B, Solar Terrestrial Program, Astrobiology, Water Vapor Monitor, ER-2, and Mars Global Surveyor.
