Sounding Rocket Operations Contract for NASA/Wallops
Orbital is the major team member to Northrop Grumman on NASA's Sounding Rocket Program at NASA Wallops Flight Facility, Virginia. The NSROC Program provides full turnkey suborbital rocket capabilities to the science community within NASA, universities, and the military. The integrated NSROC team provides mission planning, electrical and mechanical system design, development, payload integration and environmental test, subsystem/system integration and test, launch and post-flight analysis for all sounding rocket customers. Under the contract, Orbital's primary function is to provide the interface and coordination between the Scientists, Principal Investigators, and NASA in day-to-day operations support throughout the life of the science endeavors on a sounding rocket program.
Launch operations are conducted at all world-wide permament and temporary ranges. Missions have flown from:
- White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico
- Wallops Island, Virginia
- Poker Flat, Alaska
- Vandenberg AFB, California
- Barking Sands, Hawaii
- Puerto Rico, Norway, Sweden, Marshall Islands; Australia, Greenland, Brazil, Canada, and Peru
