Prototype Spacecraft Research and Development
for the Naval Research Laboratory

Orbital (formerly Fairchild Space & Defense Corporation) has been providing support to the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) since the 1980s on this and several predecessor contracts. Orbital provides program management, engineering, and manufacturing services for NRL’s Space Systems Division along with a team of specialty subcontractors. Activities include technical support for the design, development, fabrication, integration, test, launch and operations of in-house spacecraft and other technical systems for NRL. Support includes quick reaction fabrication of circuit card assemblies and subcontract procurement and management of major flight hardware items. Some of the projects that have been supported include Clementine, Interim Control Module, Naval Earth Map Observer, Microelectronics and Photonics Test Bed, and Windsat.
